The physical therapy addition and renovation are complete at Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the city of Newport Beach. The project added approximately 1,000 sq. ft. of new therapy space to the building, as well as a full renovation of the existing Rehabilitation Gym.
Designing the physical therapy space with high ceilings and large windows to maximize the amount of natural light filtering in, created a restorative environment to help aid in resident recovery. The addition merges with the exterior, integrating with one of the beautiful, well-maintained courtyards to allow the therapy activities to extend outside on sunny days. The renovation added an accessible restroom, a therapy kitchen, and ample work and storage space for employees. The new, enlarged therapy gym now has dedicated spaces for each therapy activity, ample room for state-of-the-art equipment, and even an interactive digital game area.
The therapy addition is an isolated building with a seismic joint that separates it from the existing skilled nursing facility. By making this addition structurally separate, we were able to avoid an expensive upgrade to the existing building without sacrificing the desired look for the addition. During construction we worked closely with the owner, the facility, OSHPD staff, the IOR and the contractor’s team to ensure a successful and effectively executed project.
One of our goals here at Gregg Maedo + Associates is to help our clients achieve their objectives for excellent patient care by providing practical and innovative designs for spacious and seamless therapy spaces. Due to their excellent level of care, Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has won the Owner’s Facility of the Year award. An open house was held in October after the completion of the project to celebrate this wonderful achievement. Congratulations Newport Nursing, it was an honor working with you.
