Nature is where we all come from. It is all around and inside us, and even though we erect buildings for shelter, a connection to the outdoors is essential for the human spirit. Nature’s ability to heal and provide comfort is undeniable. In many cases a healthcare resident is too sick and too weak to move, and is not able to go outside and connect with the natural world. In these conditions, it becomes imperative that a healthcare design brings nature to the resident. With this in mind, we design to incorporate internal atriums, open to both sky and corridors. These beautifully landscaped spaces become a bridge that connects the sun, filtered through the growing plants, to the residents inside. Ultimately, we understand that to allow residents to be in touch with nature is to aid that resident in mind, body, and soul.

“…when you want to give something presence, you have to consult nature. And there is where Design comes in.”
-Louis Kahn

“The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting, a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me”
-Woody Guthrie
